In fiscal year 2008-2009, almost 21% of Arcadia's General Fund came from local sales tax, over $9 million in total. This money supports services such as public safety; fire prevention; library, recreation and senior citizen programs; building and safety; certain street and traffic engineering projects; tree maintenance; sidewalk repair; park and public landscape maintenance and more. Every dollar spent in town supports local jobs, neighborhood merchants and it generates sales tax revenue that supports the City services residents use on a daily basis. Sales tax is not only paid at what is thought of as a traditional retail store, it is also paid on gasoline, restaurant bills and non-food items at grocery stores. In this economy, with shrinking sales tax, it is even more important to shop locally and keep your tax dollars in Arcadia. |
