Arcadia is a charter city governed by a five-member City Council (which also serves as the City's Redevelopment Agency), with each member serving a four-year term. The Council elects from its membership a Mayor to serve as its presiding officer for a one-year term. Click here to view the Arcadia City Charter. The City Council serves as the legislative and policymaking body of the City. They enact all laws and direct such action as required to provide for the general welfare of the community, translating the attitude and ideas of the citizens into municipal action to the end that desired levels of service are provided as efficiently and effectively as possible. The City Council establishes policy; adopts all Ordinances and Resolutions of the City; reviews and adopts the annual operating budget and five-year capital improvement program; and maintains communications with citizens and other government agencies to provide and obtain information necessary for the operation of the City. The City Manager is employed by the City Council to carry out its policies and to serve as executive officer of the City and Redevelopment Agency. The City Council and Redevelopment Agency meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 240 West Huntington Drive, unless otherwise noted. For the benefit of City residents, City Council meetings are broadcast live on cable television - Champion Channel 6 and Time Warner Channel 3 - with daily reruns at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. An agenda package previewing each Council meeting is available for review in the City Clerk's office, the Arcadia Public Library or via the City’s website on each Friday prior to the scheduled meeting.
